From Tea Cups to Tech Blueprints: Building the Future of E-Commerce Part 5

Asalaam O Alaikum.

I reflect on the changes since my last meetup with a my friend as winter arrives. During our last conversation, he kept asking an important question: “What will users see as soon as they land on the site?”.

Yesterday, this question resurfaced in my mind. I had assumed it would be addressed by my designer friend, who has been keeping me updated for the past two weeks. He shared insights about the science behind the colors he plans to use for the website, the layout of categories, and the placement of the latest products.

While he focused on design and aesthetics, I was thinking about technical aspects like monitoring page load time, ensuring cross-device compatibility, and enabling smooth keyboard navigation.

Yesterday, my designer friend and I met early at Haveli Restaurant to discuss these ideas and review the designs. As we chatted about how products should be displayed, the friend for whom we are building this project arrived.

However, something seemed different about him. He looked like he was having a rough day. He told us his car had been stolen a few days ago, and on his way to meet us, his Careem ride got a flat tire, forcing him to switch vehicles. I felt deeply sorry for him and considered postponing our discussion about the project updates

But to my surprise, he showed remarkable resilience. Despite his troubles, he lightened the mood and shifted the conversation back to business. He asked us, “Can we do something quickly? Can we launch the online business within a week?”

I was taken aback and asked why he felt such urgency. He explained that we should focus on conducting market research, identifying our target audience, and studying competitors and their strategies. As a businessman, he seemed determined to recover from the financial setback caused by his car theft

We discussed several options, including using CMS platforms like WordPress with WooCommerce or third-party services like Shopify. He quickly agreed that we should use these solutions to get the business running while continuing to develop our custom solution in parallel. I agreed with his practical approach: it’s better to launch with a ready-made solution than to delay the business

Moving forward, I will keep sharing updates about the custom solution we will build. In the meantime, I am seriously considering WordPress WooCommerce as an e-commerce platform.

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Which CMS or third-party service do you think we should consider for a quick launch? Please share your suggestions in the comments.
